Brief Overview:
A VLSI (Very Large-Scale Integration) design centre is a facility focused on designing, developing, and implementing integrated circuits (ICs) with millions of transistors on a single chip. These centres typically offer services related to VLSI design, including design expertise, training, and often fabrication capabilities. They are crucial in the creation of modern electronic devices, enabling the miniaturization, increased performance, and reduced power consumption of electronic systems.
Objectives:
The key objective of Centre of Excellence (COE) – VLSI Design is to introduce the fundamental principles of VLSI circuit design, to examine the basic building blocks of large-scale digital/analog integrated circuits, and to provide hands-on design experience with professional design (EDA) platforms among students. This Lab exposes the students to latest in IC Design Technology. The main objective of the centre is to be enabling the excellence in training for VLSI Technology and to bridge the gap between academic and VLSI industry. Finally, at the end of the training program, students should be able to get placement in core VLSI design-based companies.
Major tools/Hardware:
Centre of Excellence for VLSI design offers complete Chip Design expertise from RTL to GDSII implementations at 45nm, 90nm, 180nm technology nodes including pre- and post-silicon testing. Expertise includes Front End Design and Verification, as well as Backend Design and Physical Implementation. The VLSI centre have a Full-custom Cadence Design Suite and Xilinx ISE Software for programming and have a FPGA boards: Spartan kit -6E for implementing the program.
Projects Completed:
- Designing of bandgap voltage reference circuit using 90 nm CMOS technology (Analog and digital design Hackathon Winner)
- Design Pinball using FPGA
- 32-bit RISC- V Processor Design on FPGA using Verilog
- UART using Verilog
